Listen to Damian McKew discuss our College
Our Principal was recently interviewed by Live FM’s Ralph Barbra. They explored education in today’s landscape, Iona’s points of difference, qualities of great teachers and more.
Building a school from the ground up is an exciting opportunity for Damian McKew. He’s currently working on the College and watching the building construction and the community network grow every day. “Building a school from scratch means we’re not beholden to traditional classrooms designs so Iona has been designed with contemporary learning spaces in mind, including classrooms that offer the flexibility and can cater for the needs of young people. An environment to support education in a modern world.”
Also high on his agenda is recruiting the very best staff. He believes the qualities of a great teacher are passion for teaching and working with young people. “The idea is not to just deliver the curriculum, but a teacher should look after the whole student.” Damian is seeking professionals that have the ability to relate and care for young people and who are innovative and collaborative.
“Between our built environment and our staff personnel we’re going to be building something pretty special and that’s exciting” said Damian McKew.
